Old Gas Station in Residential Neighborhood: Blue Sky Motors and Pedestrian

View all Richmond.
A small gas station, no longer pumping gas, and perhaps built in the 1930s, is situated on Division near 32nd and nestled among the houses of the neighborhood. Note the smallness of the building and lot and how different it is from our current conception of a service station. This was a neighborhood garage, with perhaps one or two pumps at most. While perhaps it was never the ideal neighbor, living next door to it would not be unthinkable, unlike a modern 10 or 20 pump station which no one would want to live next to if it could be avoided. Livable neighborhoods are in large part a matter of scale.
